Roman Britain Gallery

This page contains a selection of pictures taken with a digital camera during trips which I and my partner have made around Britain. Most of the pictures currently displayed come from two trips to Wales, one covering north-west and south-east Wales in August 2000, the second south Wales only in April 2001.

More pictures will be added from time to time, including scans of older prints.

Technology Notes:

Apart from the wallpapers, the images above have been shrunk to 512x384 in size for web browser viewing. This page was initially created with MS Word but more recently edited with 1st Page 2000 due to compatibility problems with Netscape.

From 2000 onwards photographs have been taken on an Olympus C3030Z digital camera with a maximum resolution of 2048x1536. I have upgraded the memory to 128MB, which gives enough space to hold around 600 photos at a resolution of 1028x768. Normally I take photographs at 1280x960 so that I can crop them if necessary. Some panoramic photographs have been taken, these are several photographs "glued" together automatically using camedia software. Lighting is rarely ideal in the UK(!) but I have found the Olympus very good in dealing with over cast days (e.g. at Caernarvon the photo was taken sheltering under an umbrella in the rain) and even twilight photographs (e.g. at Caer Gybi it was during sunset).
